What are commodities?
Commodities are a variety of food products that are distributed to those in need. Sources include USDA, Nevada Division Of Aging and Three Square.
More than 25% of valley residents are served each month with an average of 100 families. It ranges from 70 to 130 families. Family sizes range from 1 to 10.
There are an average of 20 volunteers per month and their ages range from 17 to 84. They work an average of 5 hours each packaging fruits and vegetables as needed and arranging pallets and distributing the commodities. Many commodities recipients help with the distribution.
Years of service at the Senior Center:
With more than 4 years of service we have developed an efficient operation and are able to finish the distribution by noon.
Due to the corona virus some changes are required. For Monday June 8th, sign in will be drive up and food will be delivered to your vehicle to avoid contact with other people. Volunteers will be wearing gloves and masks and will handle the carts. Recipients are advised to stay in their vehicles as much as possible.
Commodities will be distributed on Monday the 8th of June 2020 in the thrift store parking lot from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon.
Families of 4+ start at 10:00 am.
Families of 1+ start at 11:00 am.
